It is cooler this morning with some wind, but not bad. No early morning call for us today. We got up about 7a and lingered getting ready. We went down for a scrumptious breakfast, John was so happy they were making omelets! We chatted with other travelers and headed out to our cooking class at 10a via 2 shuttle buses, just 21 from our group went on this optional excursion. Our first stop was in a small town called Ano Mera just a short drive from the hotel. We visited the 18th Century Monastery of Panagia Tourliani. We had detailed explanations about many things. I found the oil lanterns give by the fishermen or captains of ships so intricate and interesting.
Then it was just a short few minutes drive to the small organic family farm called Mykonoy Vioma where we had the cooking class. I would call it more of a demonstration because we did not get to actually do any cooking, which was a little disappointing to me personally. We were shown how to make this special cheese pie that everyone raves about using Kopanisti cheese that only comes from Mykonos. They do have this cheese on other Cyclades Islands but it is supposed to be the very best in Mykonos. In addition, our host showed us how to make Tzatziki (Greek cucumber sauce, used like a condiment), which was delicious. After the demonstration we could walk around and look at their farm animals but soon we sat to eat the lunch and have 3 samples of wine they also make, all three wines were delicious. In addition to the cheese pie and Tzatziki we were served bread, other hard cheese, louza (or lonza? like prosciutto), and Greek Salad. This is the first place we have been that hasn't had several cats in residence ... Two smaller sized dogs, Oscar and Jose probably have a lot to do with that. After our luncheon we headed back to the hotel.
Lunch
At 5p some of us met Alexandra in the lobby and took the hotel shuttle into town to have dinner and watch the sunset, dinner was on our own tonight. We ate at Sunset, John had Sea Bass and I had Pasta and Shrimp, both were good. We ordered a caipirinha, which was on the menu but it only tasted like limeade or something like that, a slight disappointment.
Dinner
Can't wait to hear the Tatziki recipe - I love that!
